About The False Sun

The False Sun is a free, no-download browser horror-mystery visual novel. You play as a visitor who arrives at a quiet farm and slowly realizes the boy waiting at the gate is not who he pretends to be. Every choice changes what you are allowed to do next, and every route ends one of twenty ways.

What it is

The False Sun is a short, atmospheric experience built on the Ren'Py engine and wrapped for the web. There is nothing to install and no account to create — open the page and play. A full blind playthrough runs two to three hours, and all twenty endings are reachable from the same starting point. The setup is deliberately small: one sun-soaked valley, one family, and one boy who remembers a summer you cannot.

How to play

The game runs directly in your browser on https://the-falsesun.com. There is nothing to install and no account to create — open https://the-falsesun.com and play. If the player does not load, make sure JavaScript is enabled and that your browser is up to date. Your progress is saved locally in your browser, so you can close the tab and pick up where you left off.

Art, sound, and tone

The False Sun leans on still illustration, ambient sound, and long pauses rather than jump scares. The palette is warm — amber light, dried grass, late-afternoon shadows — because comfort is where the unease hides. Expect a slow build, quiet dialogue, and choices that matter more than they first appear. Nothing is timed, so you can read every line at your own pace.

Who makes it

The False Sun is an independent project. We are a small team that builds browser-native horror because we like stories that unfold in a single tab. Writing, art, and code are produced in-house, and any outside assets are used only where we can clearly credit them. New endings, fixes, and guide pages are added as we finish them.

Updates and roadmap

The game is complete in its current form, but we still ship bug fixes, accessibility improvements, and the occasional guide or wiki entry. There is no paid version and nothing locked behind a paywall — what you see is what we intend to keep supporting. When something changes, the relevant guide pages are updated first.
